  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats (uncooked) A good source of fiber for digestive health and helps create a pleasing texture.
  • 1/2 cup Cooked Spinach (finely chopped) Rich in vitamins A, C, and K, iron, and antioxidants, promoting vision, immunity, and healthy cells. Ensure it's thoroughly cooked and mashed or finely chopped.
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley (finely chopped) Known for its breath-freshening qualities, it also offers vitamins and minerals to support overall health.
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce Adds moisture and a touch of natural sweetness, providing fiber and vitamins.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil A source of healthy monounsaturated fats, beneficial for skin and coat health, and can aid in nutrient absorption.
  • 1 Egg (lightly beaten) Acts as a binder and provides protein for muscle development and overall health.
  • 1/4 cup Water (or as needed) To achieve the desired dough consistency.

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • Baking Sheets
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour and rolled oats until well combined.
1 cup Whole Wheat Flour, 1/2 cup Rolled Oats (uncooked)
  3. Add the finely chopped cooked spinach, finely chopped fresh parsley, unsweetened applesauce, olive oil, and lightly beaten egg to the dry ingredients.
1/2 cup Cooked Spinach (finely chopped), 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley (finely chopped), 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 2 tablespoons Olive Oil, 1 Egg (lightly beaten)
  4. Stir everything together until a cohesive dough forms. If the dough is too dry, gradually add water, one tablespoon at a time, until it’s moist enough to handle. Be careful not to make it too sticky.
1/4 cup Water (or as needed)
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters of your desired shape and size to cut out the treats.
  6. Carefully place the cut treats onto the prepared baking sheets, ensuring they are spaced about 1/2 inch apart.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch. Baking time will vary slightly depending on the thickness and size of your treats.
  8. Remove the baking sheets from the oven and let the spinach parsley healthy dog treats cool on the sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Ensure they are completely dry before storing.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, refrigerate for up to a week, or freeze for 2-3 months. Always consult with your veterinarian before introducing new foods, especially if your dog has allergies or health conditions.
