Method
- Prepare 1 to 2 shots of your strongest coffee or espresso. If you don't have an espresso machine, you can use a Moka pot, AeroPress, or even a strong brew from your regular coffee maker. Aim for about 2-4 ounces of concentrated coffee.1 to 2 shots strong brewed espresso or strong coffee
- Pour 1 cup of your chosen unsweetened milk into a small saucepan. Heat the milk over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it's hot but not boiling. Alternatively, you can heat the milk in a microwave-safe mug for about 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent overflow.1 cup unsweetened milk of your choice
- Once the milk is hot, remove it from the heat. Stir in your sugar-free sweetener until it's completely dissolved. Start with 1 tablespoon and add more to reach your desired sweetness level. Add the optional vanilla extract and stir well to combine.1-2 tablespoons sugar-free sweetener, 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- For a classic latte texture, you can froth the milk. If you have a milk frother, use it according to the manufacturer's instructions until you achieve a nice foam. If you don't have a frother, you can vigorously whisk the hot milk in the saucepan for about 30-60 seconds, or pour it into a jar with a tight-fitting lid and shake it vigorously until frothy.
- Pour your brewed espresso or strong coffee into your favorite mug.1 to 2 shots strong brewed espresso or strong coffee
- Gently pour the warmed, sweetened, and flavored milk over the coffee. If you frothed the milk, spoon the foam on top.1 cup unsweetened milk of your choice, 1-2 tablespoons sugar-free sweetener, 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Dust with a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for an extra layer of flavor and aroma. Top with sugar-free whipped cream if desired.Pinch ground cinnamon or nutmeg, sugar-free whipped cream
Notes
Freshly made is best, but sweetened milk can be stored for 2-3 days in the fridge. Coffee flavor diminishes if stored.
