    2 medium sweet potatoes
  2. Scoop the flesh from the sweet potato skins and mash thoroughly in a medium bowl until smooth. Add the whole wheat flour and unsweetened applesauce. If using, add the cinnamon.
2 medium sweet potatoes, 1/2 cup whole wheat flour, 1 tablespoon unsweetened applesauce, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  3. Stir the ingredients together until a cohesive dough forms. It should be slightly sticky but manageable. If too wet, add a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time. If too dry, add a tiny bit more applesauce.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into desired chew shapes using cookie cutters or a knife.
  5. Place the shaped chews onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-30 minutes, or until the chews are firm to the touch and lightly golden around the edges.
  6. Remove from the oven and let the Sweet Potato Dog Chews cool completely on a wire rack before serving. This is crucial for texture and safety.
