Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats old-fashioned oats are best for texture
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar packed
  • 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy such as almond, soy, or oat milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt

Equipment

  • Mason jar or container with a lid
  • Bowl (if not using a jar/container)

Method

  1. In a mason jar, container with a lid, or a bowl, add the rolled oats, chia seeds, packed brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Stir these dry ingredients together thoroughly to ensure the brown sugar and chia seeds are evenly distributed throughout the oats. This step is crucial for even flavor distribution and proper thickening.
1/2 cup rolled oats, 1 tablespoon chia seeds, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, Pinch salt
  2. Pour in your chosen milk (dairy or non-dairy), and the vanilla extract.
1 cup milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  3. Secure the lid on your jar or container and shake vigorously until all ingredients are well combined and there are no clumps of oats or brown sugar at the bottom. If using a bowl, stir with a spoon until everything is thoroughly mixed. You want to ensure the chia seeds are dispersed evenly to absorb liquid and create that signature creamy texture.
  4. Place the container in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This allows the oats and chia seeds to soften and absorb the liquid, creating a thick, pudding-like consistency.
