Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sweet Potato, cooked and mashed Ensure it's plain cooked sweet potato without any added spices or butter.
  • 1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour Alternatively, you can use oat flour or almond flour for a gluten-free option.
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce Choose unsweetened varieties to avoid added sugars.
  • 1 Tablespoon Natural Peanut Butter Ensure it is xylitol-free, as xylitol is toxic to dogs.
  • 1 Egg

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • Medium Bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Add the cooked and mashed sweet potato, whole wheat flour (or alternative), unsweetened applesauce, xylitol-free peanut butter, and egg.
1 cup Sweet Potato, cooked and mashed, 1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour, 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce, 1 Tablespoon Natural Peanut Butter, 1 Egg
  3. Mix until a firm dough forms. Stir the ingredients together thoroughly until they come together into a cohesive dough ball. If the dough is too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time. If it's too dry, add a teaspoon of water or applesauce.
  4. Roll out the dough and cut shapes. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use your favorite cookie cutters to create fun shapes for your treats. You can also simply roll the dough into small balls and flatten them slightly.
  5. Place treats on a baking sheet. Arrange the cut-out or shaped dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Bake until the edges are golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch. They should sound slightly hollow when tapped.
  7. Cool completely. Once baked, remove the treats from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack before serving them to your dog. This is crucial to prevent burns.

Notes
