Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the 1 cup of pure pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce, 2 large whisked eggs, and 1/4 cup of xylitol-free peanut butter until thoroughly combined and smooth.1 cup 100% pure pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce, 2 large eggs, 1/4 cup smooth peanut butter
- Gradually add the 2 cups of whole wheat flour (or oat flour) to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.2 cups whole wheat flour
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use your favorite dog-bone-shaped cookie cutters (or any shape you prefer) to cut out the treats.
- Carefully place the cut-out treats onto the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are not touching. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving. This will ensure they are fully hardened and easy for your dog to chew.
