Ingredients

  • 1 cup 100% pure pumpkin puree not pie filling; mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce mashed
  • 2 large eggs whisked
  • 1/4 cup smooth peanut butter xylitol-free; creamy
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour or oat flour for gluten-sensitive dogs; sieved

Equipment

  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Large Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the 1 cup of pure pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce, 2 large whisked eggs, and 1/4 cup of xylitol-free peanut butter until thoroughly combined and smooth.
1 cup 100% pure pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce, 2 large eggs, 1/4 cup smooth peanut butter
  3. Gradually add the 2 cups of whole wheat flour (or oat flour) to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.
    2 cups whole wheat flour
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use your favorite dog-bone-shaped cookie cutters (or any shape you prefer) to cut out the treats.
  5. Carefully place the cut-out treats onto the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are not touching. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch.
  6. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving. This will ensure they are fully hardened and easy for your dog to chew.
