  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries hulled and pureed (about 1 cup whole berries)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream for glaze
  • optional pink or red food coloring for decoration
  • optional sprinkles for decoration
  • optional edible glitter for decoration
  • optional chocolate chips for decoration

Equipment

  • - Oven
  • Donut pan
  • - Baking Sheet
  • - Parchment Paper
  • Medium Bowl
  • Large Bowl
  • Wire rack
  • Small Bowl

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a donut pan, or line a baking sheet with parchment paper if you are making donut-shaped cookies or freeform donuts.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and 1/2 cup granulated sugar.
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  3. In a separate large bowl, whisk together the egg, 1/2 cup milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
1 large egg, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  4. Gently fold the 1/2 cup pureed strawberries into the wet ingredients. The mixture may appear a slightly pinkish hue.
    1/2 cup fresh strawberries
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few small lumps are okay.
  6. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full. If freeforming on a baking sheet, use a spoon to create donut shapes.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a donut comes out clean. The donuts should be lightly golden brown.
  8. Let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5-10 minutes before carefully inverting them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of milk or heavy cream until smooth and pourable. If you want a vibrant pink glaze, add a drop or two of pink or red food coloring and mix well.
1/2 cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream, optional pink or red food coloring
  10. Once the donuts have cooled completely, dip the tops of each donut into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Place them back on the wire rack to set.
  11. While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle with your desired decorations like Valentine's Day sprinkles, edible glitter, or mini chocolate chips. Allow the glaze to set completely before serving.
optional sprinkles, optional edible glitter, optional chocolate chips
