Wholesome Crockpot Canine Stew

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey or chicken Cooked and drained
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice Plain, unsalted
  • 1 cup chopped sweet potato Cooked and mashed
  • 1/2 cup cooked peas Plain, no salt added
  • 1/4 cup chopped carrots Cooked until tender
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth dog-safe

Method
 

  1. Cook the lean ground turkey or chicken over medium heat until thoroughly browned. Drain off any excess grease.

  2. Steam or boil the sweet potato and carrots until they are fork-tender. Mash the sweet potato once cooked.

  3. In your crockpot, add the cooked, drained turkey or chicken, cooked brown rice, mashed sweet potato, cooked peas, cooked chopped carrots, and olive oil.

  4. Pour in the dog-safe low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth. Stir everything together until well combined.

  5. Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 3–4 hours, or on high for 1.5–2 hours, until everything is heated through and the flavors have melded. The stew should be soft and easily mashable.
  6. Allow the stew to cool completely before serving. You can shred it further with forks if desired for easier eating.

Notes

This recipe is intended for adult dogs. Consult your veterinarian before feeding to puppies or dogs with health conditions. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2-3 months. Reheat gently until warm, not hot.
